We must live this principle of courtesy toward cveryone;-not only in our persona' dealings but also in all our civic, official and governmental roles and interactions. It is particularly important where it is most difficult—that is, in the institutional arenas where society defines, regulates and polices its members. To the degree that our key institutions fail in civility, we fail to be fully civilized. It is in light of this principle that the Human Relations Council works to foster dignified human relations and a public culture of civility. The Human Relations Council accomplishes this by providing: • Information and support to organizations and individuals. • Cooperation with like-minded groups and government agencies. • Promotion of equal access to opportunities and better knowledge about difference • Help, advice and referrals to victims of discrimination or hate violence.
