Chouinard, City Clerk SUBJECT: Estudillo Mansion Committee Interviews RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City. Council select a date for the Estudillo Mansion Committee interviews by the Historic Preservation Committee (Vice Mayor Shaw and Council Member Ritchie). BACKGROUND: The Estudillo Mansion Committee was originally established on February 18, 1999, by Resolution No. 99-3 of the San Jacinto Redevelopment Agency. The Estudillo Mansion Committee serves as an advisory committee to the city council. Thus, the city council makes the appointments to the committee. Display advertisements are currently running in both newspapers to solicit interested individuals to apply. Notices were also posted at city hall, the library and the school district administration building. The application period closes at 5:00 p.m. June 23, 2006. As the committee continues to evolve, the number of appointed members was reduced from nine (9) to seven (7) per Resolution 2551 adopted June 17, 2004. On July 1, 2004, the City Council's direction was to have the Council's Historic Preservation Committee do the interviews, as they are the liaison to the Estudillo Mansion Committee (rather than appointing a separate ad hoc committee). DISCUSSION: There are three (3) seats to be filled. Per Resolution No. 2305: When a vacancy occurs the City Council shall appoint a replacement to fill the expiring term. The seat held by Mr. Biaubagh expires June 2007. There will be one appointment to fill the balance of that term because he is unable to attend the meetings. Mr. Blaubagh's business schedule conflicts with the committee meeting times. Approvals City Manager. ODA) Page 1 of 2 Finance Director: The other two terms (Schlosser & Dunham) expire June 2006. These two appointments are needed to fill full, four-year, terms. The date for the interviews needs to be set. The new appointee's first meeting would normally be the first meeting in July. However, the Estudillo Mansion Committee's July meeting will be July 5fh, which is one day prior to the July 6, 2006 council meeting. At the next council meeting, on July 6, 2006, the Historical Preservation Subcommittee may make a recommendation to the full council for the appointments to the Estudillo Mansion Committee. Council can then make the three appointments based on the subcommittees recommendation or they may consider other applicants if they wish. ALTERNATIVES: 1) Set date to do interviews for Estudillo Mansion Committee 2) Continue item FISCAL IMPACT: None.
