Chouinard, City Clerk City of San Jacinto by Dale Stubblefield, Mayor Approved as read: Approved as amended: AGENDA ITEM h September 7, 2006 TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Steven G. Pasarow, Redevelopment Operations Manage SUBJECT: Estudillo Mansion Advisory Committee Vacancies and Subsequent Recommendation to Make Appointments RECOMMENDATiON: Staff recommends that the City Council review and appoint four new members to the Estudillo Mansion Advisory Committee to the two seats currently available with terms expiring on July 31, 2010 and two seats with terms expiring July 31. 2007 and 2009. The Council's Historic Preservation interview committee will make its recommendations for appointment to the City Council; however, the Council may discuss and consider other candidates if desired. DISCUSSION: There are currently four vacant seats on the Estudillo Mansion Advisory Committee which does not leave enough members to hold a quorum for meeting. Two of the seats are vacant due to the expiration of the terms for Rebecca Schlosser and Betty Jo Dunham, which expired at the end of July, 2006. Two other seats are vacant, one was held by Mr. Don Blubaugh and one held by Mr. Nick Jones. Mr. Blubaugh and Mr. Jones both are unable to attend the Mansion Committee meetings due to work schedule conflicts. As stated above, there are four vacant seats on the Committee. Two of the seats have full terms which will expire at the end of July, 2010. The other two seats are unexpired terms ending in July 31, 2007 and 2009. According to Resolution 2305, which established the Estudillo Mansion Advisory Committee in 1998; "Members shall serve staggered four year terms of office and vacancies shall be filled by appointment by the City Council." Page 1 of 2 The City Clerk advertised for persons who were interested in becoming Committee members, in the Press Enterprise on May 21 and 31 and June 4, 14 and 18 and in the Valley Chronicle on May 19 and 26 and June 2, 9 and 16. This advertisement produced a list of 9 applicants who were interviewed by the Historic Preservation Committee. These interviews were conducted in early July by Vice Mayor Shaw and Councilman Ritchie. The proposed appointments will be for the two terms expiring July 31, 2010, one term expiring July 31, 2009 and one term expiring July 31, 2007. The committee will provide its recommendations to the City Council for appointment to the Estudillo Mansion Advisory Committee. The four new members will take their seats at the September 6, 2006 regular meeting. FISCAL IMPACT: None ALTERNATIVES: 1.
