COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE)ss
CITY OF SAN JACINTO )
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN JACINTO, CALIFORNIA DECLARING SUPPORT
FOR A REDISTRICTING OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY
SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICTS THAT WILL MAINTAIN
THE SAN JACINTO VALLEY WITHIN ONE
SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the City Councils of the Cities of Hemet and San Jacinto (hereinafter
"the City Councils") stand united to insure quality of life for the residents and businesses
of the San Jacinto Valley (hereinafter"Valley Citizens'); and
WHEREAS, the City Councils have determined that Valley Citizens, and the local
governmental organizations providing services to those citizens, share a unity of interest
in the economic, social, and political health and vitality of the San Jacinto Valley; and
WHEREAS, the City Councils recognize that the health, safety and welfare of
Valley Citizens is best and most efficiently served by the continuation of positive
working relationships at all levels of local and regional government; and
WHEREAS, the City Councils firmly believe that such positive working
relationships cannot equitably continue to exist if the unified political franchise of the
Valley Citizens is diluted through the separation of the Valley into two Supervisorial
districts; and
WHEREAS, the City Councils are resolute in their view that the Valley must
continue to be represented by one member of the Board of Supervisors as the best and
most efficient means of promoting a positive economic, social and political climate
within the Valley, which in turn creates jobs, and facilitates higher education levels and
better quality housing; and
WHEREAS, the City Councils know that cooperative efforts between Hemet, San
Jacinto and the County of Riverside is essential in attracting sustainable business
opportunities and ventures which cooperative efforts are further strengthened by
representation of the Valley by one member of the Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, the City Councils truly understand that the Valley Citizens deserve a
quality of life that preserves its rich history and builds its future which is best and most
efficiently achieved by representation of the Valley by one member of the Board of
Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, partition of the Valley into more than one Supervisorial District is
tantamount to the political disenfranchisement of the Valley Citizens within Riverside
County, and cannot, and should not, be countenanced.
NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Councils of the Cities of Hemet and San
Jacinto stand firmly opposed to any plan or action to redistrict the Riverside County
Supervisorial Districts in a manner that will partition the San Jacinto Valley into more
than one Supervisorial District. The Valley must continue to be served by one
Supervisor!
