HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 1888 RESOLUTION NO. 1888 ] A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JACINTO, CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING ASSEMBLY 2 BILL 4298 3 Whereas, the City of San Jacinto is committed to implementin recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in order to meet 4 the requirements of the California Integrated Solid Waste Manage- ment and Recycling Act {AB 939 , 1989 as amended] ; and 5 Whereas, Assembly Bill 4298 by Assembly Speaker Willie 6 Brown would, if adopted, dismantle the processing fee provision of the state's beverage container recycling and litter reduction % act as agreed to by industry, environmentalists, recyclers and local government officials in 1986; and s Whereas, the processing fee requires beverage container g manufacturers to pay the cost of recycling their containers when scrap value is not sufficient; and Whereas, the net cost of recycling glass and plastic ]] beverage containers in California in 1989 was in excess of $10 million, and in 1990 is projected to he S1S million the 12 deletion of the processing fee as proposed in AB 4298 will require recyclers and local government to cover that cost and 13 in effect subsidize the recycling of glass and plastic beverage containers; 14 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF SAN JACINTO: 15 Section 1. Oppose Assembly Bill 4298 currently moving 1fi through the state legislature. 17 Section 2. Convey our opposition to AB 4298 to Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, our Assembly and Senate representative{ s ) , 1$ and the California League of Cities and County Supervisors Association of California. 19 Section 3.
