2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN JACINTO, CALIFORNIA, DECLAP,ING ITS SUPPORT
3 FOR THE DESIGNATION BY THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS
OF THE JUAN BAUTISTA DE ANZA TRAIL AS A COMPONENT
¢{ OF THE NATIONAL HISTORICAL TRAIL SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the De Anza Expedition of 1775-76 was a unique, historical even
6 having a significant impact on 240 men, wo�ren and Children from the northern
8` Province of Mexico to Monterey, California, across sore 1 ,60C miles of rugged
desert and mountain terrain to open the first land route to California; and
0� 41HEREAS, the De Anza Trail accomplishments exemplified the finest attri-
t
10 butes of leadership, courage, skill and determination worthy of the great
11 American heroes of our past; and
12 i UHEREAS, the historic use of the De Anza expedition was a remarkable
13 route never excelled, per'naos never equalled, in the history of the pioneer
1¢ treks of peoples of the Pacific Coast before, during or after the Gold RLISh.

16 WHEREAS, the De Anza Trail has significant potential for public recrea-
17 tional use and historic interest for the people of San Jacinto; and

21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the i'ayor and the City Council of
221 the City of San Jacinto on behalf of the City of San Jacinto and its citize
291 express their support for the designation of the Juan Bautista De Anza Trai
2-111 as a component of the National Historical Trail SysteT and request the Con-
25' gress of the United States to so designate the De Anza Trail . To preserve
i
2611 peace, health and safety, it is necessary that this Resolution become iTmed
27:1 ately operative.
