2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN JACINTO, CALIFORNIA SUP-
PORTING RATIFICATION OF THE PERIPHERAL CANAL REFERENDUM

WHEREAS, the increasing possibility of serious water shortages..with-
4
in the next decade is a source of continuing concern to all residents and busi-
5
nesses in the City of San Jacinto and Southern California; and
6
WHEREAS, the Peripheral Canal would assure a stabilized quality of
7
water not now enjoyed by State Water Project Contractors and permit Southern Cal-
8
ifornia utilities to commit funds to waste water reclamation, thereby reducing
9
both long term demands for water and providing insurance againt:t the effects of
10
drought; and
11
WHEREAS, the City of San Jacinto and other municipal entities and
12
representatives is extremely concerned over the failure to start the long-delayed
13
project;: and
14
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court has ruled that by 1985, Southern Californ-
15
ia's supply of water from the Colorado River will be cut in half; and
16
WHEREAS, the timely development of the Peripheral Canal Project is
17
j necessary to ensure the future orderly growth and development of the economic
18'
base of business and industry in the City of San Jacinto and Southern California,
19
and once agreement is reached, it will take many years to complete the work

necessary to open such a canal ;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
22
San Jacinto does support the Peripheral Canal Project and does urge all voters to
23
also support this project by approving the Peripheral Canal Referendum.

BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the Counties `
25
of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura and all
26
cities within these counties are hereby urged to go on record in strong support
27
of ratification of the Peripheral Canal Referendum.

MOVED, PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of April 1981 .
