CITY OF SA.N JACTNTO , A CALIFORNIA MUNI-
3 CIPALITY , URGING PROMPT`- REHABILITATION
OF SAN JACINTO RIVER LEVEE

RECITALS
A. The San Jacinto River Levee failed February 21, 19 80 while
6 the river was about half full following heavy rains , resulting
in the flooding and evacuation of most of the 7000 residents of
7
the City of San Jacinto for at least two (2)' days.
8 B. Substantial- damage and loss to public and private property
resulted from the flood, and the populace was exposed to substantial
9 danger to life and limb,
10 C . The rainy season is expected to commence within eight (8)
months , exposing the populace of the City of San Jacinto to the
11
likelihood of more flooding until the 'levy of the San Jacinto River
is rehabilitated.

D. It is reported the Corps of Engineers , U. S . Army is
13 considering the request of the Flood Control District, County of
Riverside for approval of a project to promptly; rehabilitate the
14 levy of the San Jacinto River.
15 1,70W VT FR.FFOPF , BF IT RESOLVED, by the CityCouncil of the
City of San Jacintq sitting in regular session, this fourth 'day of
15 June , 1980 as follows :
17 1. The council finds the foregoing facts to be correct.
18 2. All persons in authority, and specifically , the Army
Corps of Engineers and the Flood Control District of the County
19 of Riverside, are requested to expedite , as soon as possible , all
20 necessary work permits and approvals to accomplish the rehab.ili-
tation of the San Jacinto River Levy with all deliberate -speed.
21 3. The City Clerk is requested to certify to the adoption of
22 this resolution and send a copy to the Army Corps of Engineers ; the
Riverside Flood Control District; the Board of Supervisors of
,123 Riverside County; The Honorable Jerry Lewis , Congressman; the
Honorable Robert Presley , State Senator; and the Honorable Bill
24 Leonard, State Assemblyman.
