COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE)ss
CITY OF SAN JACINTO )
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JACINTO SUPPORTING
THE STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES FOR INLAND EMPIRE AIRPORTS FIRST
WHEREAS, the Southern California area including Los Angeles, Orange,
Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties is served by more commercial airports
than any other major metropolitan area in the Untied States; and
WHEREAS, available Southern California Airports include: Los Angeles
International airport, Burbank Airport, Long Beach Airport, Ontario International Airport,
Orange County Airport, Palmdale Airport, March GlobalPort, San Bernardino
International Airport, Southern California Logistics Airport, and Palm Springs
International Airport; and
WHEREAS, it is expected that the greatest population growth in Southern
California during the coming centuries will occur in the Inland Empire Counties of
Riverside and San Bernardino; and
WHEREAS, Los Angeles International Airport, Burbank Airport, Long Beach
Airport, and Orange County Airport are all located in highly urbanized areas where
environmental concerns and community resistance makes it difficult for these facilities
to expand; and
WHEREAS, March GlobalPort, San Bernardino International Airport, Southern
California Logistics Airport, Ontario International Airport and Palm Springs International
are centrally located to handle the future Southern California aviation needs and its
capacity is currently underused; and
WHEREAS, cities near Ontario Airport, March GlobalPort, San Bernardino
International Airport, Southern California Logistics Airport, and Palm Springs
International Airport are supportive of the switch to a commercial airports and would
greatly benefit from the increased use of those facilities; and
WHEREAS, increasing freeway traffic into Orange and LA counties will make
ground access to coastal airports extremely difficult and attempts to mitigate the surface
access challenges to these airports will siphon off transportation dollars that otherwise
could be used to solve traffic challenges in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
1. That the City of San Jacinto favors and supports the development and
utilization of well located aviation facilities available at Southern California
Logistics Airport, Ontario International Airport, March GlobalPort, San
y Bernardino International Airport and Palm Springs International Airport,
and
2. That it is good public policy to direct air traffic to airports with excess
capacity rather than spending billions of dollars to expand capacity in
highly populated area; and
3. That regional planning agencies should focus their energies on improving
surface transportation links among existing airports and population
centers; and
4. The Inland Empire airports should further developed instead of expanding
that of Los Angeles International Airport and Orange County Airport; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of San Jacinto agrees to work with
local economic development organization and regional planning agencies to satisfy
Southern California's future aviation needs by encouraging and fostering commercial
passenger and cargo service at San Bernardino International Airport, Southern
California Logistics Airport, Ontario International Airport, March GlobalPort, and Palm
Springs International Airport.
