A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JACINTO,
CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION OF SAN JACINTO RIVER LEVEE EXPANSION
WHEREAS, the City of San Jacinto and Riverside County Flood Control and
Water Conservation District are working in partnership towards the expansion of San
Jacinto River Levee; and
WHEREAS, San Jacinto River is vital capital improvement project for San
Jacinto and the neighboring cities of Perris, Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore and the
unincorporated area of Riverside County; and
WHEREAS, San Jacinto River Expansion upon completion will remove
approximately 608 of residential property, 1293 acres of industrial/commercial property,
and 54 acres of open space area from the floodplain; and
WHEREAS, San Jacinto historically has experienced several major floods since
the late 1800's that have caused untold millions of dollars in property damage,
destruction of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure, disrupted rail service, and
emergency service access, isolated citizens and communities, and contaminated water
supplies; and
WHEREAS, City of San Jacinto and Riverside County Flood Control and Water
Conservation District are taking proactive steps in ensuring that our communities and
waters are safe and free of toxic contaminants; and
WHEREAS, initial biological studies have been completed, and additional
environmental studies and report as well as preliminary engineering are under way; and
WHEREAS, Federal funding in the amount of$16 Million is being requested to
implement this vital capital improvement project for the Cities of San Jacinto, Canyon
Lake, Lake Elsinore, Perris, and the unincorporated areas of Riverside County;
